The Invincible Modi and Inevitable Gujarat

The negative campaign on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has suddenly seen a spurt in the recent months. We know assembly elections are round the corner, but his detractors cannot be any more creative. People are just fed up by this negative campaign on Modi. Keep beating the chest on 2002 riots? We know the matter is before courts to decide up on. I could not figure out why media is hell bent on Modi or BJP. I know it dreads congress, reasons are apparent and there is no need for an explanation. All up against Hindutva ? But what is the matter with all, no body talks about the development. It was laughable to listen to Dig Vijay Singh in the recently concluded India today conclave. And he had no direct answers for the questions raised by Modi. This country has seen many riots but no body is asking to move on but it is under courts review. Let me ask for how many years we spoke about 1947 riots or 1984 Sikh killings etc., He himself admitted that he must be hanged if he is found guilty. Terms after term people have given a fitting reply to the opposition in Gujarat, and we are hopeful that it is a time for a change in Delhi too. It has been a decade and there are reports which claim that in the current scenario Muslims are better off than in any other state including the congress ruled states. The GOP of India always plays the trick of communal politics, they know it did not work in UP, let’s not forget that 4.5% quota for Muslims. Can’t we see what is coming? People need change in Delhi and stability in Gujarat. Now why this state is used as a bench mark to comment on other state’s development? And why this state has been awarded the best performing state twice by the central government which is congress. Under the able leadership of Modi Gujarat has surpassed all the barometers of development.

Why he needs to be treated as prime minister-in-waiting in Japan. And the red carpet welcome given for him in China shocked the cultural Marxists in India and other left leaning mortals too. But that’s not all, UK’s endorsement of Modi and Gujarat is indeed telling. US would follow the suit no doubt about it. In the contemporary Indian Politics there were very few Chief Ministers who reached the pinnacle of glory, the likes of C.N Annadurai for example. He was a darling for the common man. But Modi’s uniqueness lies in his consistency in development and his relentless efforts in making this part of the country a harbinger of peace, progress and development which made him move beyond glory and reach highest state. Many say that it is RSS which built him as sheelwan (a man of character and dignity), we would be least bothered all we need is a man of honour and dignity in the helm of affairs.

It is moral bankruptcy of current day politicians has reached to such a devastating levels that no body has the status to juxtapose themselves with Modi. We must take recourse to common sense and ask ourselves that why Gujarat and Modi are almost synonymous. I follow to an extent what Peter F. Drucker says on leadership and on this area he said “Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadership is defined by results not attributes” If this test is applied to judge Modi then he is the real leader, he is not only being liked by the critical mass and majority but also have produced the results, results are there for us to see. We cannot see it unless we decide to see it. Hence the recent demand of him becoming the PM of this country is genuine and reasonable. Though RSS – The mother organization has taught to all its kids that cult following should be avoided at all costs and ideology must be given a supreme importance, it is quite natural that people have always held the noble souls in high esteem irrespective of which organization they are associated with. It is a matter of pride for Shri Advaniji that he has mentored some one like Modi. It is not fair to see him through the prism of 2002 riots, but the paid and biased media never failed to keep this issue alive to satisfy its political masters. In this sacred land when we talk about development it is inevitable that we some where mention “Gujarat” and if we are forced to find out the reasons, it is impossible to avoid the name Narendra Modi.

Dumping CAG: Shooting the messenger?

In a utopian world the government will use its full might to deal with the headless monster called corruption. We know very well that we do not live in a perfect world and governments are morally bankrupted in most cases if not in all cases. Going by what Minister of State PMO said that govt. is pondering over the idea of making CAG as a multi member body, it sounds to be a rage against the central auditing body. Now what prompts some body to say this, even a lay man would guess it. Marred by the revelations of monumental scams from CWG to 2G and beyond, it is becoming increasingly challenging to convince the voters whose allegiances and loyalties are fast changing and it is necessarily dynamic. UPA as a coalition did loose its credibility in the recent years, the drubbing in UP in the recent past is one such example. And new discoveries of impropriety of politicians mostly associated with congress are eroding the hard earned vote bank. Narayanaswamy must have used an appropriate thinking hat and concluded that “Let’s shoot the messenger”. Is it the most demanding issue for the country? No. But yes, it’s an issue for congress and government. To think about messing up with CAG is a result of guilty consciousness. Comptroller and auditor general must be allowed a free hand in making sure that the public money is spent for the intended purposes or to verify whether nation’s assets are left at the mercy of vested interests. If some one cannot digest the truth then we shall conclude that it is a guilty feeling. The clean would not degenerate to such a level of thinking (ie. to dump the CAG). It heartening to see that people across political spectrum have condemned the attempts to dump CAG in the name of multi member body.

Attention must be diverted to whether all that is said in the CAG reports can be substantiated. It is startling to hear from CAG that constitutional and statutory bodies like CAG/EC/CVC/CBI are not free from government’s intervention. For some it may sound like a known secret so no wonder. Credibility of congress as a party has taken a severe beating after the release of CAG reports on 2G, Coal scam etc., But the thought of keeping the CAG at bay under the garb of reforms is an act of uncivilized behavior. Now that we know there are not many takers of CAG reform even with in congress and government.

Congress under siege

Government under siege can probably be the right word to describe the current situation which congress as a party is facing. The combined onslaught of kejriwal and Dr.Swamy both are patriots from different schools of thought. But the later has more muscle to wrestle with the mighty elephant – Congress. What a responsible government must and should do when such serious allegations surface in a relatively non-perfect world. Yes government has the machinery to investigate/prosecute etc., just to verify if there is any substance in these allegations. But none of this happened. This spell of revelations from Team Kejriwal includes vadra-DLF deal, former law minister’s debacle through young India’s fraud. It will be an utopian thinking if we say that congress’s image is intact after all this, with in congress many would say all is well not to mention Digvijay singh and Manish Tewari. I am not talking about coal block allocation any where here. From where this age old part derives such an enormous amount of alacrity in the face devastating revelations? The answer is electorate. But the larger question is, will we ever see the political activism from the bottom? I doubt it. It is told that during the times of adversity man’s real character comes to the fore, that’s why we could see recent urge of running down the RTI act and conspicuously they have backtracked from this step. But what is the way forward. There are many affairs of fraudulent nature which are not seeing the light of the day. We need more Subramanyam Swamy/s for such tasks. It is alarming to see the kind of arrogance crept in to congress; sorry arrogance was/is the hall mark of congress. Let it be the hike of petrol or reduction of subsidized LPG aam admi is not taken in to confidence. Looking for more revelations from people like Swamy, so that the common man is made aware of the real face of congress.
